If you’re anything like I am, you cannot properly edit a video, let alone a series of videos. If you’re anything like me, you also do not have a strong desire to learn. Enter Vidify, an app on my phone that makes my life completely easier. In fact, it let me make a video montage in three easy clicks.
Now, be honest.
How perfect is this video?
I created this video using an app for my iPhone called Vidify. I took a series of videos and the app analyzed them and developed the mash up you see above. The folks behind Vidify provided a few tips on how to get the best video. I liked some of them and thought I’d pass them along.
1. Take a videos from a variety of perspectives. I did this and found I liked the results – it gives your video more texture.
2. Take roughly three times the amount of video you want. I took a lot of short videos. A lot. I found I preferred videos with a lot of action. In the end, I preferred to have short action clips to longer videos where less happened. Either way, you need to be aware that much of what you film – like the time you spend waiting for something to happen – won’t appear in the end video. As a result, you need more action.
I also want to throw out a few tips I learned myself through trial and error.
3. Take lots of action videos. Even if you’ve got the cutest video of your child saying something adorable – it just doesn’t translate well in a montage. In addition, with the music, you can’t really hear it. That means that action shots are much more attractive in these videos.
4. Don’t take vertical videos. At this time, Vidify is set up to compile horizontal videos. I tried to throw in a few videos that had been filmed vertically (including an awesome one of Alex hula-hooping with my dad) and I ended up with headless people. They’re looking into increasing functionality in the future but for now, be sure to start your videos from a horizontal position.
The app was really easy to use and was a great idea for making Mother’s Day gifts. (Mom, you didn’t just read that.)
