As those of you with toddlers know, watching language develop is an awesome thing. It can also be frustrating at times causing you to yell “I have no idea what ‘I Yes You’ means?!?!?”. And before you correct me, it absolutely does not mean I Bless You or God Bless You, as my toddler will emphatically inform you.
So, that’s said, please decipher these words that Alex uses frequently. While they are often well enunciated, this is how the sound when he’s tired or excited or mumbling or…you know, being a toddler.
I know what all of them mean but I’d love to see your interpretations.
Be careful: there’s actually a phrase or two in there.
1. Puntin
2. Wubv
3. Wossat
4. Hep
5. Hoppa
6. Scuzme
7. Bella
8. Oh no!
9. tetch
10. dorey
11. Hmmmm. missinsumpeen
Want answers? Find them here.
If you don’t get at least one right, I get to mock you.
If you get them all correct, you get a gold star.
There are no other prizes. Frankly, this is just me amusing myself.

Because when he says his name, its “NayNay”. Sounds like a stripper.
i am the only person who has always been able to translate at least 75% of my own toddler's babble, (mostly due to context) but other people's kids have always been a mystery to me.
There's nothing worse than saying, “use your words, honey” only to get something sounding like,
“hemmmmrrrrfffffrrrrb”
What the what?

I actually miss my kids being toddlers and their toddler talk. Sometimes.
That is just too cute. I can't wait until Donut starts talking!
So awesome! I can almost SEE him saying all these things. I am the oldest of six children, so I got to watch all those siblings learn to say stuff. I was “WaaWaa” (Laura) for years!
Seriously…. I can't figure out what my toddler is saying half the time. I just nod & smile. And that is what I'm doing now.
Do I win?
Since I've communicated with him IRL, I have an unfair advantage.
My nearly two-year old son says two words regularly. “Nertz” and “nudz”.
Nertz is a term used in excitement, but we have no idea what it means.
Nudz, as best I can tell, is a general, all-purpose word that is used whenever he's not excited. What's great is when he drops something and then utters “nudz,” because it's like he's saying “awww, nuts,” which would, at least, be funny.
Poor you:
I had my guys so close together in age they'd translate for each other, I loved it.
“Oh, he means he wants to watch Caillou and not Little Bear.”
Okay, I cheated and went right to the answer sheet. And really, why do we ever need more vocabulary words than A. has right now?
oh how I loved this and since I peeked..I saw the answers for a lot
but Gio and Jacob do this and tell “this is what he said, mommy!” when I am looking at both of them like they are not speaking any kind of language.
WUBV. My absolute favorite.
This is SO funny to me because I just wrote a guest post about this SAME EXACT thing!!! HA HA HA!
And that last one has be totally stumped so I guess I have to go peek…
I am laughing at this and the fact that other toddlers seem to totally get this speak. I should ask Violet, but she would say the same words!
I'm fairly certain your little man is a fan of the punter on Game Day, is looking for hemp, and uses the Boston vernacular “hopper” for some beer brewing.
Either that or he's saying Love You, What's That, and Help, but that's seems odd to me.
Oh, I got this:
1. Pumpkin
2. Love
3. What's that?
4. Help
5. Grasshopper
6. Excuse me
7. (OK, this one's stumping me.)
8. Oh shit, I've accidentally on purpose dropped something and need you to pick it up so that I can accidentally on purpose dop it again!
9. Either 'touch' or 'catch'
10. Story
11. Hmmm, something's missing.
I speak toddler, too. In fact, I was going to write a similar post but you beat me to it. Damn you.
You people are nuts! Obviously it's:
1) Poo in a tin
2)Onomatopoeia for dog sounds
3)Excited for the SAT's
4)Well that's Help, no way around it
5)Fan of Dennis Hopper
6)That's because of me “'s cuz a me”
7)Halloween spirit, impersonating Dracula
8)Someone crapped themselves
9)Demanding to be taught something “tetch me, I need to know arithmetic, tetch me!”
10)Nickname for Dora the the Explorer
11)Chorus of a John Mayer song
So obvious. I know I'm late on these, but I just found your blog. Do I win a prize?
