The Ears of Thor

After I read a post about Harrison Ford at Tales From the Chicken Coop I realized I missed a great story to tell you for Father’s Day.

When I was younger I got my ears double pierced. This was before the belly button ring. Or the….well, let’s just say it was before the belly button ring. My dad doesn’t need to know about anything else.

Although I don’t think he reads this you can never be sure. You can never be too careful with dads. They are wily.

So, I had gotten my ears double pierced. I badly wanted to get my cartiledge pierced as well. I devised a cunning plan to get this done.

When they pierce your ears at the mall, as I’m sure you all know, you must buy the set of earrings. After you’ve purchased the earrings the piercing service is free. I could not afford to get my own ears pierced so I strategized. I connived and manipulated and wheedled until I convinced my father that it would be a stellar idea for him to get his ear pierced.

That would, naturally, leave one earring for me to get my cartiledge pierced. My father sat down in the piercing chair and determined which ear to get pierced. I turned my back on him for a moment to browse the earrings. I needed to know what my options were once my piercing healed.

I turned back to find, much to my horror, that my father’s piercing was complete.

He shrugged at me and said “Did you know they charge you for both earrings even if you don’t use them both? So I figured, what the hell? I asked her to double pierce my ear like yours.”

My scheme had not gone according to plan.

This reminded me of one of the tenets of my life. Do not screw with dad. To this day I’m still not positive whether he knew of my scheme or not but it really doesn’t matter. I can’t best the man. He is wily and unpredictable in his predictability.

Eventually I got my piercing and eventually I took it out to work my professional job.

My father on the other hand, still wears his. A purple stud and a lightning bolt. And he rocks them like a badass.

What a cute post. And I'm glad you specified what earrings he got, because in my head I was imagining some pink diamond-ique studs that adore the walls of Clair's.

That is a brilliant dad story.

    A thunderbolt.

Every dad should have a thunderbolt.

I did once get my dad into purple velvet and tights for a Renaissance themed wedding (not my own) and he rocked that pretty good too.

Your dad sounds like the coolest guy ever.

All my dad said when he saw my ear pierced for the 5th time was, “So what's next?”

He will never know about my brief stint with a belly button ring.

    Ever.

Wow. You're dad got a double piercing and STILL wears the earings. I really can't get over this. Hang on. Still processing. Okay, done. No, wait. I'm still chewing this over. That is about the funniest thing I've every read.
